Michael joins the Markham Majors / Markham Islanders organization as Senior Advisor to the Executive Team. As a former athlete, now lawyer, Michael provides strategic and innovative legal advice and solutions. As a litigation lawyer for more than 15 years, he has been involved in a broad range of complex litigation and has been lead counsel to some of Canada’s leading precedent cases. He has also developed extensive experience as a business transactional lawyer.
Michael is a lecturer of sports law courses at the post-graduate level. He is often called upon as a commentator by various major media sports outlets. He has represented various sport organizations and sport clients and has litigated sporting disputes in numerous legal forums. He is an author and contributor to law texts and books. Michael has been named in the Best Lawyers in Canada.
Michael played hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (London Knights, Kitchener Rangers) and received an NHL invitation tryout (Nashville Predators). He later played hockey for the University of New Brunswick and the Australian Ice Hockey League (Melbourne Ice, captain). Michael was Valedictorian of his university class and Academic All Canadian. He received the Lieutenant Governor Silver Medal for attaining the highest GPA. He holds a Master of Laws (LLM), Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies and Bachelor of Laws (LLB).
Michael enjoys playing hockey and coaching his sons. He takes pride in counselling players and families in their educational and athletic choices.
